Ashanti Regional Minister, John Alexander Ackon has described disgruntled National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters blaming him for the party’s defeat in the region as “attention seekers”.
According to him, those making ugly noises are speaking out of emotion at a time majority are calling for unity to strengthen the party for the 2020 elections.
The Ashanti Regional Minister who also led the NDC’s campaign for one million votes revealed this on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday.
His comment was in reaction to claims by leading party members, Alhaji Tapsoba and Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh that he [Ackon] and his deputy, Andy Osei Okrah caused President John Mahama defeat.
They argued that the two who are novices when it comes to politics in the Ashanti region failed to consult the grassroots who know all the nook and cranny in the opposition party’s stronghold.
But Alexander Ackon maintained that the allegations being levelled against him are all baseless.
He stated unequivocally that they did everything humanly possible to ensure President Mahama is retained in power but luck was just not on their side.
“President Mahama deserved another term, we worked hard but luck was not just one our side,” he added.
The Ashanti Regional Minister could not fathom why people who were not part of the campaign are accusing them of failing
This notwithstanding, Alexander Ackon said they remain focused and ready to work to make the NDC stronger for Election 2020.
