I will work with the majority in Parliament – Asante Akyem North MP-elect [Audio]

The Member of Parliament-elect for Asante Akyem North Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, has promised the people of Asante Akyem North that he will work with the majority in Parliament to bring development to the area.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, Mr. Frimpong reflected on his decision to run as an independent candidate and the overwhelming victory he achieved.

“Despite everything that happened to me, I remained focused on serving the constituency. Nothing they did pushed us away” he said.

He also noted that, he had always maintained a strong relationship with the people, adding, “I don’t segregate. I am very cool with them, and that’s why we had an overwhelming victory.”

Mr. Frimpong acknowledged the broad support he received across party lines.

“Even NDC people voted for me, and those who initially didn’t want to vote, voted for me.”

Going forward, the independent MP elect outlined his plans for the future, stressing the importance of collaboration with the government.

“During my campaign I promised them that whoever comes into power, I will work with them to ensure development for our country,” he said.

He also disclosed job creation as a priority, saying, “I will open job opportunities for the people in the constituency.”

Mr. Frimpong also revealed that he has access to investors who have pledged to help build a stronger constituency.

“I have good investors who are ready to support me in making the constituency better,” he added.

Mr. Frimpong won the seat with a resounding 26,926 votes, defeating the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP, Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, who secured 8,933 votes.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Kofi Asamoah, received 2,469 votes.
