Former Black Galaxies head coach, Bismark Kobby Mensah, has expressed his displeasure about the coaching profession in Ghana.
According to him, it comes with little respect and is not a career he would recommend.
In an interview, Mensah spoke about the challenges faced by coaches in the country, highlighting deep-rooted systemic issues that hinder the profession’s growth.
He admitted that coaching was never part of his original aspirations due to the extensive hurdles and sacrifices involved.
“I had no plans of becoming a coach. Coaching in Ghana is a very difficult job. If a player is hungry, you need to look for food for him. You don’t have a life as a coach; your only focus is to secure three points” he said in an interview on Asempa FM’s Sports Nite.
He pointed out the financial difficulties inherent in the role and lamented the lack of respect and recognition for coaches, who are often treated as mere formalities within the football system.
“You can never have a lot of properties if you are a coach in Ghana. There is no respect for coaches. You are just there as a requirement. Kobby Mensah stated.
Reflecting on these challenges, the former head coach of Bechem United, Great Olympics, and Karela United advised against pursuing coaching as a career in Ghana.
“I will never advise anybody to become a coach in Ghana. It is one hell of a job,” he concluded.
