The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Andrew Augustus Nana Kwasi, has vowed to resign and join the New Patriotic Party(NPP) if the latter secures its projected 85% vote target in the 2024 election.
Nana Kwasi has expressed confidence that the NDC will make significant gains on December 7.
In an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Nana Kwasi outlined that the NDC is working hard to make this goal a reality, insisting that their efforts will not go unnoticed.
“We are going to win votes in Ashanti Region. People will be shocked by the results. If the NPP gets 85%, I will join the NPP. Even with 70%, they will still struggle to achieve that,” he declared.
According to him, it is important to protect votes, but he clarified that the NDC would do so peacefully and without resorting to violence.
Responding to claims by the NPP that they have made significant strides in infrastructure development in the region, Nana Kwasi disagreed, stating it was untrue.
“The NPP keeps claiming they have done a lot in terms of infrastructure, but that’s simply not the case. They keep boasting about getting 85% of the votes in Ashanti, but that won’t happen,” he said.
Nana Kwasi remains optimistic that the NDC will outperform its previous vote shares, which have historically ranged between 28% and 29%.
He explained that the NDC arrived at the 32% target after carefully analyzing its strongholds and understanding the dynamics within the region.
While the NPP has set a target of securing 85% of the Ashanti Region’s votes, Nana Kwasi rejected the claim, accusing the NPP of bussing people into the region to inflate their numbers, calling it a “lie.”
He therefore expressed confidence in the NDC’s ability to win a greater share of the Ashanti Region’s vote.
“The NPP boasts about Free SHS, but to me, it’s not sustainable. Enough is enough,” he stated.
