Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has issued a public apology for supporting the reappointment of coach Otto Addo.
His apology follows Ghana’s disappointing 2-0 loss to Sudan in the second leg of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
After a goalless draw in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium, the Black Stars were defeated by the Falcons at the Martyrs of February Stadium.
Reacting to the team’s performance, Agyemang-Badu, who was part of Ghana’s U-20 World Cup-winning squad and played in the 2024 FIFA World Cup, expressed regret over his earlier endorsement of Otto Addo’s return.
“And I apologise. Those who advocated the second coming of coach Otto Addo, if you go into my interviews I gave him massive support but I’m sorry,” he told Onua FM. “It seems the task is beyond him,” he added.
Otto Addo was reappointed in March this year on a 34-month deal with an option of a 24-month deal, replacing Chris Hughton after the Black Stars’ early exit from the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast. Since his return, the team has managed to win only two matches.
The Black Stars will have a chance to regroup in November for the final round of the qualifiers, where they are set to face Niger and Angola.
