The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament-elect for Okaikwei South Constituency, Ernest Adomako (Keon) said he is not surprised by his victory in the December 7 elections.
Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Mr. Adomako revealed that he expected even better results.
“I was not shocked by the results. For so many years, the NPP has ruled this constituency, but nothing significant has been done in the community. Okaikwei South is far behind in development, and the people were ready for change” he said.
Mr. Adomako attributed his victory to the trust and belief the people have in him.
“I have been with the people for a long time, and they know me personally. They believe in my leadership and know I can deliver,” he explained.
Highlighting his plans for the constituency, he stated that unemployment among the youth is a top priority.
“The problem here is leadership. We have industries in this constituency, and I will engage with them to employ some of the unemployed youth. I already have the data on the number of jobless youth, and I will fight for them as I promised during my campaign,” he assured.
Addressing the issues faced by his predecessor, he said, “My opponent had many weaknesses, including being inaccessible to the people. I will be different. I will be accessible to everyone, including market women, because I want to be a leader for all.”
Mr. Adomako also pledged to modernize the Kaneshie market, making it a more conducive place for traders.
“The market women deserve better, and I will ensure they have a modern facility to work in comfort,” he said.
He also promised to renovate schools in the area and deliver on his campaign promises.
“I will prove beyond doubt that I can work and bring real development to Okaikwei South,” he stated.
Reflecting on his historic victory, Mr. Adomako said the seat would remain with the NDC for a long time.
“After 28 years of NPP dominance, we have taken this seat. I will ensure that my work keeps the NDC in power here for many years to come,” he declared.
Mr. Adomako won the election with 32,691 votes, defeating the incumbent NPP MP, Darkoa Newman, who secured 24,263 votes. This marks the first time in 28 years that the NDC has won the Okaikwei South seat.
