Team Lead for ImageBureau, George Quaye, has expressed disappointment in John Dumelo for not responding to a remark made by the Member of Parliament for the Yendi constituency, Habib Iddrisu, during his vetting.
At the vetting on February 25, 2025, Habib Iddrisu advised John Dumelo, the Deputy Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture, not to treat his new role as if he were in the movie industry.
“You are not in your movie industry, try to be as serious as you can,” Habib remarked.
This statement has not gone down well with many in the creative arts industry, who view it as condescending to their profession.
George Quaye, speaking in an interview on Daybreak Hitz with Doreen Avio, criticized the MP’s remark and expressed disappointment that John Dumelo did not challenge it.
“I was quite a bit disappointed in my brother John Dumelo for not calling it out right there,” Quaye said.
He added that Dumelo should have used the moment to defend the creative industry, which played a significant role in his rise to prominence.
“If it were me, George Quaye, I would have seized it as a perfect opportunity to make a statement for the sector that made me. The sector made me, and I would defend it,” he stated.
Quaye also acknowledged the presence of influential figures in Parliament, such as A Plus, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, and Hon. Sam George, who have shown support for the creative sector.
