Kwabena Kwabena has stated in an interview on Daybreak Hitz with DJ Slim that he was the first to organize Valentine’s Day shows in Ghana, responding to the controversy surrounding Akwaboah’s canceled 2024 concert.
Akwaboah had attributed the cancellation of his 2024 Shades of Love concert to Kwabena Kwabena’s event, which was scheduled for the same day and venue.
“For the past 6 years, Valentine’s Day has become synonymous with Akwaboah’s Shades of Love concert. This is why it pains me to say we will not be able to have our concert this year,” Akwaboah wrote in a statement issued in 2024. He also expressed his frustration in an interview on Accra FM, stating that he did not understand why Kwabena Kwabena chose February 14, questioning his decision to hold the event on that day.
However, Kwabena Kwabena clarified the origin of Valentine’s Day concerts in Ghana, stating that he started organizing such events before any other Ghanaian musician.
“On the 14th of February 2014, that was the first time I did a Valentine concert. I called it F14. So I started Valentine shows,” he said. He added that it should not be a problem for anyone else to organize events on that day because there are many people who enjoy attending such shows.
Kwabena Kwabena emphasized the importance of acknowledging the contributions of artistes and stated that no artiste should claim exclusive ownership of the day. “No artiste should lay claim that it’s mine. I mean, it’s not fair,” he remarked.
In the meantime, Kwabena Kwabena is set to organize his Valentine’s Day event at the Grand Arena on February 14, 2025. Customized tables can be reserved by calling 0551103393 or 0505163674, and tickets are available by dialing 7141010#, with prices set at 300 GHS for regular tickets, 500 GHS for couples, and higher rates for VVIP tables.
