The owner and bankroller of Division One side, Techiman City, Charles Kwadwo Ntim, known in football fraternity as ‘Mickey Charles’ has revealed that he questioned the appointment of Referee Charles Bulu as the centre referee to officiate the Kotoko, Berekum Chelsea clash.
The referee who has made the headlines for the wrong reasons in the past was named by the Ghana FA Appointments Committee (AC) to officiate the clash in Kumasi over the weekend.
But according to the football administrator, he was stunned by the decision of the AC to appoint Mr Bulu to officiate the clash.
Mickey Charles said games between Kotoko and Berekum Chelsea have always been tough hence it would have been better for the FA to name a more experienced referee than Charles Bulu.
“I was surprised the Appointments Committee named Charles Bulu to officiate the Kotoko, Berekum Chelsea,” he told Nhyira FM.
“We have followed Kotoko and Berekum Chelsea games and they are always tough matches. I questioned Charles Bulu’s appointment because looking at where we are coming from, we need to toughen things and make sure thing are done in the right direction.
“I told Edmund Ackah at the stadium that Charles Bulu is not fit to officiate the game and some of the decisions of the referee [Charles Bulu] did not help the game.
He also charged the Ghana FA to do a proper background check on referees before appointing them for matches.
Kotoko lost 1:0 to Berekum Chelsea.
A fan who has been identified as Augustine Opoku was injured when supporters of the Porcupine Warriors were expressing their displeasure based on some decisions of Referee Charles Bulu.
