I no longer chase top acts for ‘collabo’ – Dogo

Taking the spotlight again after some time away from the scene is not an easy task and no one knows this more than Hiplife artiste Paa Dogo.

Counted among the best rappers in his day, Paa Dogo has had it tough trying to get back into the industry.

And he told Graphic Showbiz that some of the top acts he had wanted to collaborate with to relaunch his career had all disappointed him so he had given up on them.

“I have reached out to Guru, Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, Samini and a host of others and it is either they are busy at the moment or they are not ready. There is no need to run after these A-list artistes again. I believe in myself and in what I have and I know soon, Ghanaians will love what I bring out,” he said.

Paa Dogo, who has worked with the likes of Kofi Nti, Joe Frazier, Obrafour and Tinny, said there was no unity in the music industry and said it was about time artistes came together to fight for a common goal.

“What is wrong if Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy or Medikal posts a picture of my artwork? That will never happen because we are not united, when it comes to musicians helping musicians, the Nigerians are the best.

“During my time, I discovered the likes of Tinny, Kwaw Kese and the late Okyeame Kojo Kum and took them to Hammer of the Last 2. But now, it is very difficult for an artiste to help other artistes,” he stated.

Paa Dogo, who is known for songs including Odompo, Dalega and Musuo, claimed he was still the best rapper in Ghana.

“No rapper in Ghana has been able to beat the record I set during my time. Eighteen years ago, I was killing everyone’s show with my rap skills. The others are trying now but still, I am the best rapper in Ghana,” he said.

Away from his disappointment, Paa Dogo said although Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy commanded huge fan bases in Ghana, alternative artistes like Wiyaala and Ayisoba were more popular than the two abroad.

According to Paa Dogo, although Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy may play a few shows outside Ghana, the rate at which Wiyaala and Ayisoba are always out there making the country proud is amazing.

“The number of times Wiyaala and Ayisoba play shows outside the country is incredible but Ghanaians hardly notice it. I can confidently say that these two artistes are by far popular than Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale or Sarkodie. The A-list artistes in Ghana are local champions.

“It is about time we supported artistes such as Wiyaala, Ayisoba, Atongo and other artistes doing real authentic music. By promoting such artistes, we will push Ghana’s name on the world map,” he said.

Paa Dogo, real name Kwaku Takyi, who said he was engaged in other businesses and studying the music scene, said he was planning to release two new singles titled My Corner and Abrabo.
