Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyepong, has called on party members to rally behind the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to ensure victory in the 2024 elections.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, Mr. Agyepong clarified that he never attacked Dr. Bawumia during the party’s internal contest.

Mr. Agyepong who also a senior campaign aide for the Bawumia for President campaign stressed the importance of unity now that the internal competition is over, urging members to focus on serving the party and supporting Bawumia.

“The internal competition was a democratic exercise to choose a leader for the party. The internal competition is over so let us serve the party now but let me put on record that I never attack Bawumia. Now that the competition is over, our focus should be on supporting Bawumia to emerge victorious in the upcoming elections” he stated.

Addressing claims that he had spoken against Bawumia, Mr. Agyepong insisted, “I didn’t say anything against Bawumia. Its politics and my comments were merely about correcting the record regarding the five-year rule at the time.”

He further stressed the need to ensure historical accuracy within the party.

“We need to make sure the record of history is corrected. I have never attacked Bawumia” he stated.

Mr. Agyepong reiterated his respect for the party and his commitment to its success.

“Just because I didn’t win doesn’t mean I should leave the party. I am determined to work for the NPP. Ghana is worth dying for,” he said, emphasizing his preparedness to contribute to the nation’s future.
