Abetifi Member of Parliament (MP) Dr Bryan Acheampong is optimistic that incumbent Nkawkaw MP, Joseph Frempong will retain the seat for the NPP on December 7.
The NPP on September 2 decided to replace Mr Frempong, who is currently facing health challenges and has been unable to participate in the intensive campaigns required for the upcoming elections.
However, at another meeting on September 11, the NPP national leadership decided to keep him on the ballot paper.
In an interview on Asempa FM Ekosii Sen programme, Dr Acheampong acknowledged that, the past year has been challenging for his colleague.
“He took ill for sometime but he is in good place to win the election. I believe that even if he was disabled and the people wanted him, they would have still voted for him. It was very difficult for us to remove him because of his ill health considering the track record,” he said.
But considering his performance and the vote margin he garnered for the NPP, he is convinced the people of Nkawkaw will retain him to continue the good works.
“Nkawkaw has had people from diverse backgrounds serve as MP but as a teacher[Joseph Frempong] who literally had nothing not even have a car, he was able to move our votes from 37,000 to 44,000.
“He identified with the people as one of them and was in the race to push their interest so they supported him overwhelmingly. Yes indeed we haven’t been able to fulfill all our promises but we have shown commitment that we can do it better and faster, I believe Nkawkaw will vote for Frimpong and the NPP because he is a field marshal and a practical person,” he stated.
