I have never received any award after 20 years in music – Mzbel

Ghanaian hiplife artiste Mzbel has opened up about never winning an award despite being in the music industry for two decades.

Mzbel, who gained fame in 2004 with her debut album Awoso Me, was one of Ghana’s biggest female artistes during her prime and enjoyed popularity in Nigeria, Liberia, Ivory Coast, and Kenya.

However, she believes Ghana has not fully celebrated her achievements.

“I have been in the industry for 20 years; I’ve never received any award,” she said in an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Showbiz A-Z on Joy FM.

Reflecting on her career, she admitted that a lack of proper branding affected her recognition.

“If I were starting music today, I would put more effort in my branding. The branding wasn’t put together well. I was just put out like that, no proper branding. I would go on radio and say anything, put on any outfit, go where I am not supposed to,” she stated.

Despite this, Mzbel remains active in music and is currently working on a new song about bad friends.

She is known for hits such as 16 Years, Awoso Me, Yopoo, Edey Be, Twe Ma Me, Braa Fiifi, and My Bonnet.
