Former President John Dramani Mahama has revealed his intention to watch the Black Stars’ upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifier against Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday.
Ghana is pushing for a spot in the global tournament, and this match is crucial for their campaign.
During a visit to the team, Mahama shared a lighthearted moment, joking that close friends had advised him to eat before the game to avoid distress if the result turned out to be disappointing.
“I will take time off and watch the game myself, even though my heart is not very good at watching soccer. I will brave it, as they have told me to eat before watching the game,” Mahama said.
He encouraged the players to give their best performance and bring joy to the nation. “My hope is that you will justify my sitting and watching you guys.
The whole of Ghana is going to be behind you, and I am sure that you can make it,” he added.
After facing Chad, the Black Stars will travel to Madagascar for another qualifier on March 24, 2025.
Victory in both matches would significantly boost Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
