I inherited ‘dumsor’ but fixed it before leaving office – Mahama

Former President John Mahama has fought off claims that he led the country into a period of darkness during his time in power.

Mr Mahama said he inherited the intermittent power outage, commonly known as ‘dumsor,’ but effectively solved it before his tenure ended.

According to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, there was a dwindling power generation and other challenges in the energy sector but they escalated while he was still in office.

Addressing chiefs and people of the Asutifi South constituency as part of his Ahafo regional tour, Mr Mahama admitted that, ‘dumsor’ was a major crisis for his administration.

However, as the President at the time who owed Ghanaians the responsibility to resolve issues, he faced the challenge and addressed it accordingly.

“Leadership is about taking responsibility and not blaming others. So with the knowledge I had, when a crisis befell the nation, I didn’t apportion blame but I fixed it.

“Dumsor didn’t start during my tenure, it was only that the demand for electricity went up so we needed to increase the generation capacity and I took it upon myself to resolve the issue. I went to parliament and through that, we brought the Ameri and KAR power plants to boost the capacity,” he stated.

Mr Mahama in the meeting also urged the constituents to reject the NPP on December 7 due to the failure of the Akufo-Addo- Bawumia led government who always blame others for their crisis.
