I call Bawumia my boyfriend, and I’ll campaign for him if… – Cynthia Morrison [Listen]

The incumbent Member of Parliament for Agona West, Cynthia Morrison, has said she affectionately refers to Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia as her “boyfriend,” but insists she cannot blame him for her current troubles.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, she explained that, although she has no issues with Bawumia, her approach to campaigning will depend on the preferences of her supporters.

“I call Bawumia my boyfriend. I cannot blame Bawumia for what is happening to me. I have no issues with him. When I campaign, if people like me, I will campaign for myself, but if they support Bawumia, I will still campaign for Bawumia” she said.

Madam Morrison also clarified that if she has the opportunity, she will campaign both for herself and for Bawumia,

“Even during the campaign, if I am given the chance, I will campaign for myself and the flagbearer of the NPP, Bawumia. I am very frank—if people love Bawumia and make it known to me, I will campaign for him. But if they don’t like him, then I will campaign for myself.”

However, she stressed that she cannot blame Dr. Bawumia for the challenges she faces in her constituency, as she has no evidence to support such claims.

“There is no way I can blame the flagbearer for how party people treated me,” she said.

Madam Morrison’s decision to run independently follows her defeat in the NPP parliamentary primaries on April 13, where she received 152 votes compared to Chris Arthur’s 240 votes.
