Accra Lions Sporting Director, Ibrahim Tanko, has voiced his disappointment following his team’s 3-2 loss to Hearts of Oak.
The Matchday 15 game held at the WAFA Park in Sogakope on Sunday saw the Lions take an early lead.
However, Hearts of Oak mounted an impressive comeback, with substitute Mawuli Wayo netting two quick goals to secure victory for the Phobian Club.
In a post-match interview, Tanko acknowledged the challenging nature of the match and admitted that Hearts of Oak deserved the win.
“I think we started very well until the time they scored and it was a very tough game for us today but I think in the end they deserved to win more than us,” Tanko said.
Despite his frustration with the result, Tanko commended his players’ performance and vowed to address the team’s shortcomings ahead of their next match against Dreams FC.
“I’m disappointed in the score line but in terms of the performance, I think they did very well and so we have to go and do our homework for the next game against Dreams FC.
Tanko also emphasized the importance of capitalizing on scoring opportunities in the league.
“We have learnt that we have to score. If you score one and the chance comes you have to score and in the premier league you have to score more goals to win.
“Scoring just one goal, always you have to be under pressure so definitely we are going to work on it,” he concluded.
The defeat leaves Accra Lions in a precarious position, sitting 16th in the league standings with just 13 points, deep in the relegation zone.
