A former National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yaw Boateng Gyan has diagnosed that hypocrisy and propaganda on the part of the leaders of the party caused the defeat of the party in the 2016 elections.
According to the outspoken former National organizer, there were serious cracks within the NDC prior to the 2016 presidential elections but the party hypocritically decided to do propaganda with the cracks in the NPP.
The party, he said deliberately talked about the suspension of the NPP National chairman and General Secretary in the hope of making the NPP unpopular in the eyes of the Ghanaian voter.
This strategy, he said was never the best as it never allowed the NDC time to resolve their own cracks.
From the grassroots to the top officials of the NDC, he said the structures were very bad which resulted and the resulted in the huge defeat of the party in the elections.
“From the constituency, regional to national, there were serious cracks within the party but we spent time talking about the cracks within the NPP…we knew there was no unity within our ranks as well…,” he said.
The NDC crashed to an embarrassing defeat in the 2016 elections with the party amassing only 44.4% of valid votes cast.
Various reasons have been offered as the cause (s) of the defeat of the party.
And Yaw Boateng Gyan is of the first conviction that the party with such a marketable candidate like John Mahama would have won the elections hands down if there was unity within its ranks.
He further opined that the NDC would not perform well in the 2020 elections if they fail to present John Mahama as the flagbearer.
