How old cylinders will be treated under Recirculation Model [Listen]

-

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has urged Ghanaians to take advantage of the Cylinder Regulation Model (CRM).

On Asempa FM Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, the Head of Gas Commercial Regulation at NPA, Obed Kraine Boachie noted that, the system has been streamlined to ensure the safe delivery and use of LPG across the operational areas.

Mr Boachie explained that, the empty cylinders brought by gas users would be taken to the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company for assessment.

“This is to help to rid the system of cylinders in bad shape and also for treatment purposes. The good ones will be branded, refilled and returned to the pickup point while the rusty and others in bad shape will be taken to scrap yard but we will have it in our system that you have a cylinder with us,” he said.

The CRM is to ensure that at least 50 per cent of Ghanaians have access to safe, clean and environmentally-friendly LPG by 2030.

It is also meant to improve access to LPG, improve safety in the distribution of LPG and to increase adoption of LPG.

Additionally, it is a policy shift to stop the unnecessary loss of lives and property, as well as gas filling stations, mostly due to human error.

However, after the commencement of the policy, it has received push back from some stakeholders.
