Ofoase-Ayirebi Member of Parliament (MP) Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has credited Supreme Court Justice Yonny Kulendi for playing a pivotal role in his decision to study law.

According to Mr. Nkrumah, he initially had no plans of becoming a lawyer, as his focus was on business.

Speaking on M’ashyase3 on Adom TV, he told Afia Amankwa Tamakloe that this interest in business led him to leave the Science class at Pope John’s SHS to pursue Business studies.

However, his career path took a different turn when he participated in a business enterprise program at the University of Cape Coast (UCC).

Through this program, he met Kwasi Twum, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Multimedia Group Limited, who offered him a job despite his lack of a journalism background.

Mr. Nkrumah, a former Minister of Information, revealed that Mr. Twum was impressed by his coordination skills at the event, where he served as a judge.

This opportunity launched his career in the media, eventually leading him to become the host of Joy FM’s morning show, succeeding the late Komla Dumor.

It was during his time as a journalist that he encountered Justice Yonny Kulendi.

“On the morning show, we had to discuss the Ghana@50 case involving Wereko Brobbey and Kwadwo Mpiani. The night before, I read the ruling extensively and sought clarity from Egbert Faibille where necessary,” he recounted.

“The discussion was with Justice Kulendi and former Attorney General Betty Mould, but she couldn’t make it, so Victor Adawudu took her place,” he added.

Impressed by how he handled the discussion, Justice Kulendi asked if he was a law student or a lawyer.

“I told him I had never even been to court, and he said I would be doing myself and the nation a disservice if I didn’t study law. That’s when I decided to enroll,” Mr. Nkrumah narrated.

While juggling his radio job and business, he later had to focus entirely on law school.

“We were about to go to Makola, so I had to leave radio and concentrate on my studies while expanding my business,” he noted.
