General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has charged the Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, to start his work by prosecuting current government officials.
According to Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the Attorney General’s office which has been statutorily mandated to investigate and prosecute corrupt officials in government has all it takes to carry out its mandate proficiently.

He believes the AGs office is already arresting and prosecuting former government officials and therefore it is important that Martin Amidu concentrates on prosecuting corrupt officials from the current government.
“What is Martin Amidu going to fight? If the current appointees claim they are clean, what is he going to fight? I think he is only going to conduct postmortem. The Attorney General is prosecuting old government officials and so it will be a waste of time if he also prosecutes former government officials.

“He should rather concentrate on people in his camp. Martin is going to work with borrowed powers from AG and so how can his powers be higher than AG”, he quizzed.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia was speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Wednesday.
Mr. Martin Alamisi Amidu was appointed Ghana’s first Special Prosecutor following his nomination by President Nana Addo and his subsequent approval by parliament.

But Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as General Mosquito, says the criminal division headed by the Director of Public Prosecution and the AG is at the apex and should be investigating all matters of crime including malfeasance in officialdom.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia believes, therefore, that the establishment of the office of the Special Prosecutor is an unnecessary move that can be done away with.
