Police in Bawjiase District of the Central Region have arrested a 35-year-old suspected armed robber, Aboagye Tetteh, for allegedly inflicting multiple knife wounds on a taxi driver.
The Bawjiase District Police Commander, DSP Bernard Norgah narrating the incident to Adom News’ Kofi Adjei said the suspect hired the taxi from Agona Swedru to Bawjiase for a private meeting.
However, upon reaching an isolated area during the journey, Mr. Tetteh pulled out a knife and threatened to kill the driver if he refused to hand over the car to him.
DSP Norgah added that, the taxi driver noticing his life was in danger, struggled with the suspect but lost the battle after sustaining severe knife wounds from the suspected armed robber.
Mr. Tetteh succeeded in snatching the taxi cap from the taxi driver afterwards.
But DSP Norgah revealed that due to their intelligence days after the incident, Mr. Tetteh was arrested at a spray shop when he tried to change the colour of the stolen car.
Interestingly, the same perpetrator, Mr. Aboagye Tetteh, was earlier summoned in court for a similar case at Agona Swedru Circuit Court, according to the District Police Commander.
DSP Norgah said, he was surprised because this same Tetteh was in court for similar case at Agona Swedru Circuit Court and was supposed to appear before court on Monday after he was granted bail.
“He is a taxi driver at Swedru. A certain young man hired his car from Swedru to Bawjiase. He accepted and on an isolated are, he threatened to stab the driver if he fails to give the car. They struggled and it resorted to knife wounds…
“The suspect was able to speed off with the car after pushing the driver out of the vehicle. We had information that an unknown car was parked in a spray shop. We followed and arrested the suspect who was identified as the perpetrators…” he narrated.
