Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho says his party will never accept the apology of Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, George Ayisi-Boateng.
He believes Mr. Ayisi Boateng deserves to be sacked from his post to serve as a deterrent to others.
“Yes, Ayisi has apologized but we won’t accept his apology today or tomorrow. He needs to be sacked because he himself is not Ghanaian enough to occupy such a position. In fact, we are ready to start a movement and appeal to the South Africans to bring him home” he said.
Koku Anyidoho was speaking on Adom TV’s Morning Show “Badwam” Thursday.
Mr. Ayisi Boateng whilse addressing some party youth at the Kumasi Technical University over the weekend, said he has resolved to prioritize members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in his dealings.
He said although he was to treat all Ghanaians fairly, he believes NPP members are more Ghanaian than others.
But Mr. Anyidoho who believes Mr Ayisi Boateng was forced to apologize indicated that it appeared the High Commissioner was only taking a cue from his boss, President Akufo-Addo.
According to him, Akufo-Addo has also demonstrated his commitment to prioritizing the needs of loyalists of his New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Mr Anyidoho wondered what sort of training the government offers its envoys these days to warrant such an embarrassment.
On his part, the Acting General Secretary for the ruling NPP, John Boadu on the same show said those criticizing Ghana’s Commissioner to South Africa, over his discriminatory comments but insisted that her erred and must be forgiven.
He noted that those calling for Mr. Ayisi Boateng’s dismissal are overreacting.
The commissioner John Boadu said, spoke to NPP members and so his comments should not be held against him.
“Mr. Ayisi Boateng was speaking to NPP members. He did not meet Ghanaians as an Ambassador but met NPP members and assured them that he will prioritize them…So should he have said anything different from what he said?”
