The Ho Magistrate Court has imposed fines totaling GH¢3,600 on taxi drivers in the Ho municipality last week for parking at unauthorised places along the road.
They pleaded guilty to unauthorised parking on the road.
The court, presided over by Mr. F. Titus-Glover, imposed a fine between GH¢300 and GH¢600 on the drivers, who were arrested at the Ho-Guinness and Light House areas.
The Deputy Volta Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Francis Doku, disclosed these to The Ghanaian Times.
He said that the cabbies were nabbed in view of the growing indiscipline on the part of some commercial drivers in the municipality.
According to ASP Doku the police had met with the heads of the various transport unions in the municipality over traffic offences, but that did not help to curb the trend, “so we detailed our men on the roads to sanitise the traffic”.
ACP Doku said that the exercise would be sustained and extended to other parts of the region, to ensure that drivers obey traffic regulations.
