The driver who fatally crashed two former students of Achimota School has been arrested.
The deceased, Davida Asante Boateng and Lilian Akorli, were students of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).
The tragic incident occurred on Friday, March 7, 2025, along the Achimota Highway while they were returning from a bonfire celebration at Achimota School.
Eyewitnesses reported that the suspect driver fled the scene after the crash but was pursued and apprehended by the police.
The victims were rushed to a medical facility around 12:02 AM but were pronounced dead.
Davida’s aunt, Alice Safoa, confirmed the arrest in an interview.
“The incident occurred around 10:30. According to the police, the driver was arrested after a chase. However, the hospital staff revealed that he was seeking refuge, fearing an attack by eyewitnesses. Following his arrest, he was taken to the hospital due to ill health but has since recovered and been returned to the police cells,” she told Citi News.
Lilian’s close friend, Charlotte Otchere, also mourned her loss.
“She was my classmate and my very good friend. We were in the same class and sat almost close to each other. We had our bad days, but we were okay before we completed school,” she said.
