Barça Legends have announced their upcoming match against a selection of former Ghanaian football stars, set to take place on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at 15:00 GMT.
The venue for this exciting event will be the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, Ghana.
This match will mark the fifth time Barça Legends have played on African soil, following previous encounters in Mozambique in 2017, Morocco in 2019, and Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2023, where Barcelona emerged victorious in all matches.
Ghanaian stars likely to feature include football icon Abedi Pelé, a three-time African Player of the Year (1991, 1992, and 1993) and a UEFA Champions League winner with Olympique Marseille.
He will be joined by notable former Ghanaian players, including Asamoah Gyan, the all-time leading scorer for the Black Stars, and Stephen Appiah, who famously captained Ghana in their inaugural FIFA World Cup appearance.
This initiative, which began in 2016, aims to “bring together former stars in a stable project that contributes to the globalization of the Barça name around the world while offering a platform to promote the club’s cherished values,” as stated on the club’s official website.
The specific players of Barça Legends making the trip will be revealed soon by head coach Albert Ferrer.
The Barça Legends program, managed directly by the club, is dedicated to fostering global awareness of the Barça name while celebrating the legacy of its former stars.
