His pride made him lose the elections – Tubazu on Henry Quartey defeat

The newly elected Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso Central constituency, Abdul Rauf Tongym Tubazu, has attributed the defeat of incumbent MP and Interior Minister Henry Quartey to what he describes as Quartey’s “arrogance and lack of connection with constituents.”

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Wednesday after his victory in the 2024 parliamentary elections, Mr. Tubazu criticized Mr. Quartey’s leadership, accusing him of neglecting the needs of the constituency and relying on material inducements during election periods.

“Henry Quartey has not performed in Ayawaso Central. He is only known as the Interior Minister and for his media presence. During elections, he comes to bribe people with rice, but this time the people were tired of all that,” he stated.

The MP elect further alleged that Mr. Quartey attempted to rig the elections.

“He printed and thumb printed ballot boxes, but this year, the boys were very vigilant, and his efforts were uncovered,” he claimed.

Mr. Tubazu argued that, Mr. Quartey’s defeat was inevitable due to his perceived lack of humility and failure to engage with constituents outside of election cycles.

“His pride made him lose the elections. He speaks as if he is superior to everyone. If I were him, I wouldn’t have contested again, but he likes power too much,” he remarked.

In a significant victory for the NDC, Mr. Tubazu garnered 29,755 votes, surpassing Mr. Quartey’s 23,345, to flip the seat that had been a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
