The Accra Circuit Court is currently under tight security as protesters who were arrested during the #ReOccupyJulorbiHouse demonstration over the weekend are arraigned.
The individuals were transported in a Ghana Police Service bus to court on Tuesday.
This was after lawyers representing the protestors earlier revealed they were still struggling to locate all the protesters arrested.
Over 40 participants were arrested at the 37 Roundabout while they were voicing their concerns and frustrations over the galamsey menace during the three-day event.
Organised by Democracy Hub, several Ghanaians joined in the protest to mount pressure on the government to deal decisively with the illegality polluting water bodies and destroying the environment.
However, chaos broke out on Sunday between the protesters and the Police, leading to the arrest.
Lawyer and social media influencer, Ama Governor was part of the arrested persons.
As Police led Ama to the courtroom, she is heard shouting, “emancipate yourselves from mental slavery.”
Lawyers for the protestors have told the court that they are still not aware of the reason behind the arrests.
But in court, the demonstrators were charged with conspiracy to commit crime, namely; unlawful assembly.
However, JoyNews’ correspondent, Kenneth Gyasi reported that 12 of them have so far pleaded not guilty.
