Heavy Police presence in Asesewa after clash between NPP and NDC supporters over DRIP equipment

-

There is heavy Police presence at Asesewa following a clash between supporters of NPP Parliamentary candidate, Joseph Tetteh and National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) Bismark Tetteh Nyarko.

The altercation erupted when NDC supporters spotted District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) equipment branded with NPP logos parked at the NPP candidate’s hotel.

The NDC supporters attempted to photograph the equipment, but were confronted by NPP supporters, leading to a brawl that resulted in several injuries, including NPP constituency chairman.

Local Police initially responded but had to call for reinforcements from the regional command, which dispatched the counter-terrorism unit to restore order.

Following the incident, NPP supporters paraded the DRIP equipment through the main streets of Asesewa before transporting it to the district Assembly.

The NPP’s communication bureau condemned the alleged attack on their chairman and called for an immediate investigation.

Salifu Mohammed, also known as Foreigner, a youth leader of the NPP who is currently being sought by the police for his alleged role in the clash, denied the accusations in an interview with Citi News.

Meanwhile, MP Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, speaking at Asesewa Zongo during a tour with the party’s General Secretary, denied claims that the NPP candidate personally purchased the DRIP equipment.
