Hearts of Oak confirms appointment of a new head coach

-

Hearts of Oak has announced the appointment of Aboubakar Ouattara, former Technical Director of Wydad Club Athletic (WAC), as the club’s new head coach, effective immediately.

Ouattara, from Ivory Coast, arrived in Accra on Wednesday to finalize the deal, which was officially sealed on Friday.

Signing a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Ghana Premier League giants, he is set to commence his tenure next week following the club’s friendly match against Techiman Eleven Wonders on Sunday.

With a remarkable track record across the African continent, Ouattara brings a wealth of experience to Hearts of Oak.

He served as a Technical Adviser for Moroccan powerhouse Wydad, contributing to their triumphs in the CAF Champions League twice from 2017 to 2023.

Additionally, he held the role of Technical Director at TP Mazembe from 2009 to 2011, aiding the team in securing the Champions League title and domestic league victories in the DR Congo.

Ouattara’s impressive credentials include winning domestic league titles with Mazembe and ASV Club in the DR Congo, showcasing his adeptness in coaching and team management. He holds a CAF License A certificate, further underscoring his qualifications for the position.

The appointment of Ouattara comes as a replacement for Martin Koopman, who was relieved of his duties several months ago during the first round of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season.

Following the interim stewardship of Acting coach, Abdul Badhiru, Ouattara’s arrival marks a new chapter for Hearts of Oak as they seek to build upon their successes under his leadership.

Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak have also announced the appointment of Mr Delali Anku-Adiahma as the club’s new Managing Director.
