A tragic video has surfaced showing the last moments of a boat that capsized in Niger State due to overloading.
The boat, which departed from Mundi Village, was ferrying passengers to Gbajibo Village in Mokwa Local Council after a local market day on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
The boat, reportedly carrying over 300 passengers, tragically capsized, leading to a massive loss of lives.
As of now, several bodies have been recovered, but more than 100 passengers are still missing.
Rescue operations are ongoing as families and officials continue the search.
The video footage revealed that none of the passengers was wearing a life jacket, raising concerns over safety measures on the water.
The lack of life jackets and the overloading of the boat are believed to have contributed significantly to the high number of casualties in the disaster.
