Heart of Lions coach Bashir Hayford confident title race is not over

Heart of Lions head coach Bashir Hayford remains confident that the race for the Ghana Premier League title is far from over, despite a 2-1 defeat to Bibiani GoldStars in an outstanding Matchday 21 fixture at DUN’s Park on Tuesday.

The loss leaves the Kpando-based team in third place with 40 points, trailing the top spot by five points.

Asante Kotoko currently lead the standings with 45 points, just one point ahead of GoldStars, who occupy second place.

“We have about ten matches left, which means 30 points are up for grabs,” Bashir said in a post-match conference. “It can make a difference. If someone is leading with five points, and we have 30 points to contend with, we shouldn’t relax and say they are leading.”

He emphasized that even with a ten-point deficit, it’s possible to close the gap: “It is not over. We will keep fighting and see what we can do,” he added.

Heart of Lions will aim to bounce back when they host Asante Kotoko at Kpando Stadium this weekend.
