Heart defeat league leaders WAFA 2-1

-

Accra Hearts of Oak defeated league leaders, West Africa Football Academy (WAFA), 2-1 in the 14th week Ghana Premier League (GPL), league game played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday.

Hearts announced their determination to win the day, by mounting pressure on highly fancied WAFA with an early minute goal.

Captain Thomas Abbey put Hearts ahead in the 3rd minute, when he headed home a cross from Winful Cobbinah.

Hearts dominated play as the free flowing WAFA were unable to put their acts together and exhibited faulty passes throughout the half.

Both sides receive a caution, as WAFA’s Gideon Waja and Hearts’ Cobbinah went into the books of referee for violent tackles.

WAFA pulled out Justice Amate for Richard Danso in the second half, but found it difficult to break the back of Hearts as the home team, continue to probe for a second goal.

Paul Acquah replaced Razak Patrick for Hearts in the 57th minute but again it did not change the pattern of play, with Cobinnah remaining the fulcrum of the phobians.

Hearts increased the tally in the 63rd minute through Cobbinah, whose free-kick saw Razak Abalora fumbling with the ball as it slipped through his hands and dropped into the net.

Omar Cheick Ouedraogo was pulled out for Emmanuel Boateng, whilst

Aminu Musah went off for Richmond Lamptey, with Sam Yeboah leaving the pitch for Alex Kouasi.

This changed the trend of the game, as WAFA lifted up their game and pilled pressure on Hearts.

This paid off in the 87th minute, when Ibrahim Abukari headed a cross into the net for a consolation goal.

It was a revived effort that came rather too late as Hearts ensured they kept their lead and their three points as well.

Hearts’ Fatau Mohamed was named Nasco Man of the Match.
