Heal KATH project: Two blocks to be commissioned by October

-

The chairman of the Otumfuo Osei II Foundation has disclosed that two of the five blocks under rehabilitation at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) will be completed and commissioned in the next two months.

According to Prof. Oheneba Boachie Adjei, the unstable cedi exchange rate has adversely impacted procurement of items for the project.

Speaking to Adom News at the foundation’s health screening event, he called on Ghanaians to continue supporting the project.

As a major referral health facility to 12 regions of the country, the infrastructure and medical installations at the hospital are deteriorating.

With about 1,200 bed spaces, the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital since its construction in 1955, has not seen any renovation works, thus impacting adversely on the quality of in-patient care.

The main wards of the hospital have not been refurbished with portions of the building developing defects.

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has since the beginning of the year led a collective effort to raise $10 million for the renovation of the 70-year-old facility.

The call for support is yielding results as individuals and corporate institutions continue to donate to the initiative.
