Heads of Secondary Schools have been instructed not to prevent any final year student from writing their exams due to non-payment of school fees.
The instruction, given by the Education Minister Mathew Opoku Prempeh follows a dialogue between the Ghana Education Service and the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS).
A statement signed by the Chief Director at the Ministry Enoch Cobbinah also asked the heads of the institutions not to collect unapproved fees.
“Parents and guardians must pay their wards fees as approved by the GES,” the statement said.
Heads of schools have in the past prevented final year students from writing their exams due to their inability to pay their school fees.
The directive by the Minister however did not indicate how the heads can retrieve the fees after the students write the exams.
