Former Asante Akyem North New Patriotic Party(NPP) MP, Andy Appiah-Kubi, has hailed the appointment of Dr Dominic Ayine as Attorney General and Minister for Justice, describing him as a perfect fit for the role.

Speaking on Joy News’ Upfront on Thursday, January 9, he expressed confidence in Dr Ayine’s ability to serve the nation with integrity, patriotism, and impartiality.

“Dr. Ayine is perfect for the Attorney General and Minister for Justice department. I know he will do well. He has an unblemished record and is so patriotic. He’s always on point because you wouldn’t find him being too political or too partisan,” Mr Appiah-Kubi stated.

He stressed Dr Ayine’s reputation for focusing on legal principles rather than partisan interests, a trait he believes will serve Ghana well.

“Even where one expects him to be political, he will be the lawyer that he is. He is the lawyer’s lawyer. He will not be motivated by political or partisan considerations, and we have known him for that,” he said.

Mr Appiah-Kubi, who worked closely with Ayine in Parliament, recounted instances where Ayine’s dedication to justice was evident.

“Anytime matters came before Parliament, he was always bigger and on point. He ensures that he is not swayed by political considerations.

“This is a very solid choice, and I’m sure Ghana will be the winner with him at the Ministry of Justice and as Attorney General.”

Mr Appiah-Kubi also highlighted Ayine’s potential to safeguard Ghana’s interests, particularly in financial and contractual matters.

“I expect him, and I know he will, to interrogate most of the contracts that we have gotten ourselves into as a country. He will perform to the best of his ability, which will excite Ghanaians. His high level of integrity will guide him in office,” he added.

Reflecting on their time together in Parliament, Appiah-Kubi shared his admiration for Dr Ayine’s leadership.

“He was my chairman in the Subsidiary Legislation Committee. I served under him as his ranking member, and in all situations, we worked very closely. I know he is a man of quality who deserves quality and nothing more.”

Mr Appiah-Kubi expressed optimism about Ayine’s ability to protect state resources and uphold justice during his tenure.

“He is the best choice for Ghana at this time, particularly when the focus of the state is on protecting the state purse and state property. I am sure he is the angel that has come at the appropriate time.”

On a personal note, Appiah-Kubi extended his support and prayers for Ayine.

“I’m very happy for him. He’s my professor, so I’m very proud of him. I’ll continue to pray for him. If ever I have any issue to discuss, I’ll pick it up with him because I know him.”
