Black Stars General Captain, Asamoah Gyan, has explained why he has been acting and cracking jokes in the team’s camp.
Videos of the former Sunderland player and some national team players, Christian Atsu and Kwabena Owusu have been circulating on several social media platforms where they are seen displaying their acting and drama skills.
According to Gyan, he is the brain behind those funny videos by the national team players and it is a deliberate attempt to ease pressure on the players ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.
“My prayer is to make sure we do very well and then we can go through the group stage; it’s been great, everybody is coping and as usual, I’m the one cracking jokes for everybody to laugh just to forget the pressure on us,” he told Asempa Sports.
“Although we joke here, there is huge pressure on the players so sometimes I try to take the players’ mind off the game a bit to just relax and so if you can see, sometimes I try to crack jokes for the players to laugh, just to feel at home; not thinking about football always sometimes when you do that it puts pressure on you,” he added.
Gyan, 33, aside his duties on the field of play has been one of the driving forces behind the team’s motivation ahead of matches.
The four-time champions will play in Group F alongside Cameroon, Guinea-Bissau and Benin in the 2019 AFCON.
Ghana’s opening match will be against Benin on June 25 at the Ismailia Stadium.
