Gregory Afoko granted GH₵500k bail after almost 10 years on remand

-

After nearly a decade in detention, Gregory Afoko, a key suspect in the 2015 murder of former Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Adams Mahama, has been granted bail by the High Court in Accra.

The court set bail at GH₵500,000 with two sureties, marking a major development in a case that has spanned almost 10 years.

Afoko, who was arrested in 2015, is accused of conspiring with others to assassinate Mahama in a brutal acid attack outside his Bolgatanga home.

While his bail signals progress for his defense, the trial remains ongoing as the state continues its prosecution.

Mahama suffered severe injuries after a substance, suspected to be acid, was allegedly poured on him in front of his house in Bolgatanga on May 20, 2015.

He later died from his injuries at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital.
