Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has identified security and sanitation as her top priorities for the capital city.
During her first meeting with the management and staff of the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council on February 3, Madam Ocloo announced the reintroduction of the Regional Sanitation Day and an award scheme for the cleanest city to improve sanitation in the region.
She emphasized the need to empower municipal and district assemblies to become self-sustaining as part of the government’s “Resetting Agenda.”
“I will closely work with traditional authorities, religious organizations, and other stakeholders to deepen decentralization and enhance participatory governance,” she stated.
Ms Ocloo also highlighted plans to strengthen Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and local districts to improve revenue generation for sustainable development.
“Strengthening the zonal and area councils will continue to monitor and provide technical backstopping to MMDAs as mandated by the Local Governance Act 936,” she added.
