The Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, led by His Majesty King Prof. Odaifio Welentsi III, President of the House and Paramount Chief of the Nungua Traditional Area, has extended a heartfelt congratulatory message to Shirley Ayorkor Botchway following her election as Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Nations.
This accomplishment marks her as the first African woman to assume this prestigious role.
The Chiefs highlighted Shirley Botchway’s longstanding service as Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, noting her significant contributions under the leadership of both former President John Kufuor and the current administration.
They praised her dedication, resilience, and leadership in a male-dominated political landscape, underscoring her journey from Deputy Minister roles to her record-breaking tenure as Ghana’s longest-serving Foreign Affairs Minister in the Fourth Republic.
Emphasizing Shirley Ayorkor Botchway’s achievement as a proud moment for the Ga Dangme community and Ghana as a whole, the Chiefs expressed their pride in her commitment to serving society, particularly in advocating for the welfare of vulnerable groups.
In a statement on November 1, they encouraged women and young girls to be inspired by her journey and to persevere in their own pursuits.
“We bless her on her journey to lead the welfare of men, women, children, and the vulnerable in society,” the statement read.
