Residents say the area floods frequently due to siltation in gutters.

Son of the deceased woman, Alex Adu, tip-toes from the room to explain what happened to neighbours.

He tries hard to hold back his tears as he takes people through the horrible experience.

He tells Nhyira News his efforts and that of Fire Service and Police could not save the two.

Some parts of Kumasi have been submerged after hours of torrential rain.

It comes after city authorities rolled out steps to address perennial flooding ahead of onset of the rains.

The plan seems to have yielded little results since areas they tackled in the plan were flooded.

Parts of Dechemso near Kumasi is one of the affected areas.

Interestingly, the incident occurred a day after the drain between Buokrom and Dechemso was dredged.

Residents say refusal of contractors to call off the sand from the area, entirely, is the cause of the incident.

Affected individuals are mainly mechanics whose shops have been destroyed.

Some of them who spoke to Nhyira FM say they have lost their livelihood after their shops were flooded.

Meanwhile, the KMA has been assessing the extent of damage.

Chief Executive, Osei Assibey Antwi, says efforts by the assembly must be complemented by residents.

“We as managers of Kumasi have taken the bull by the horn.. If you have realized our efforts, that is dredging of the waterways have helped reduce the flooding,” he said.

He blames perennial flooding on bad habit of residents.

“The bad attitude of the people are the causes of this problem. The littering in gutters and poor sanitation is the cause of the perennial flooding,” he said.
