Gov’t urged to prioritise TVET through IT

The Founder of Have Technical Institute in the Afadzato South District of the Volta Region, Prince Kofi Kludjeson, has called on the government to prioritize Vocational Education and Training (TVET) through Information Technology (IT).

In an interview with Adom News, Mr. Kludjeson stated that TVET is a valuable initiative that can help develop the country and reduce the unemployment rate.

He made this call during the historic occasion marking the 40th Anniversary celebration of Have Technical Institute, under the theme “Quality Technical and Vocational Education Training: A Catalyst to Ghana’s Development.”

The Principal of Have Technical Institute, Enos Darlyn Akpah, also appealed to NGOs and other philanthropists to assist in providing educational infrastructure, as the school is grappling with inadequate facilities.

The Technical Institute, established in 1984, faces significant challenges due to a lack of educational infrastructure, making teaching and learning unconducive. Among the inadequate facilities are the dining hall and boys’ dormitory, among others.

The dining hall, which also serves as the assembly hall and venue for other school functions, can no longer accommodate the increasing student enrollment. Overcrowding, discomfort, and struggles for space are common when students use the dining hall, highlighting the urgent need for a spacious dining hall complex.

The current student population totals 1,878, comprising 385 girls and 1,493 boys, yet the school lacks adequate educational infrastructure, according to the principal.

Mr. Akpah stated that Have Technical Institute is undeniably one of the leading technical institutes in the country, consistently achieving 100% pass rates in many trade areas over the years. “As a result, universities and other higher learning institutions actively seek to attract our students, who consistently excel academically compared to their peers from other technical institutes,” the principal said.

According to Mr. Akpah, the Institute has registered two programs under a voucher scheme to provide skills development and employment to disadvantaged groups in Have and other towns in the surrounding area.
