Gov’t to spend over $800m on liquid fuel in 2025 – John Jinapor

-

Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has disclosed that Ghana will spend over $800 million on liquid fuel in 2025 to power the country’s thermal plants.

Addressing Parliament on Wednesday, March 12, Jinapor described the expenditure as unsustainable and called for urgent steps to establish a gas processing plant to cut costs.

“This year alone, we require about $800 million to procure liquid fuels. If we had established a gas processing plant, we could save $400 million of that amount annually,” he stated.

He emphasized that processing domestic gas would stabilize the currency, provide cheaper fuel alternatives, and support Ghana’s shift to renewable energy.
