Govt to end street begging by physically challenged persons

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Asante Akyem Central in the Ashanti region, Susan Akomea has donated assorted items to over 30 physically challenged persons at Odumasi in the Municipality with the assurance of government’s efforts to end begging on the streets by physically challenged persons.

Speaking to Adom News, the MCE said the government was committed to equipping the physically challenged with skills and items to enable them undertake some income generating activities to earn a living.

“Begging by persons with disability along the streets poses danger to their lives and sometimes they are knocked down by vehicles, hence the need for the government’s intervention to help them engage in indoor trading. I will urge every parent not to discard their child just because he or she might be disabled,” she appealed.

Meanwhile, some of the beneficiaries in an interview expressed gratitude to the government and the Assembly for the support and pledged to make life worth living.

The items presented included fridges, toiletries, cowbell, gari, sugar and cooking oil among others.
