Govt strikes agreement with CETAG over Conditions of Service

-

The government has reached an agreement with the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) regarding the conditions of service for its members.

This intervention is aimed at ending the ongoing strike.

CETAG had withdrawn all its services after the government directed the freezing of its members’ July salaries.

On July 22, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) instructed the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to suspend the July 2024 salaries of all striking CETAG members, except for the principals of colleges.

In response, CETAG issued a statement on Tuesday, July 23, announcing the withdrawal of all services following the directive from the Minister of Education.

However, in a media interview on Friday, August 2, Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, assured that negotiations have been concluded.

“We have concluded the discussions with them. We have actually negotiated and signed on to it. I have signed my portion and all my colleagues who are supposed to sign have signed. In their case, their leadership have also signed. So what is needed is for them to have their national council meeting and also take a decision.

“I must admit that we still have work in progress. The most important issue, even though there were quite a number of issues, was the issue of migration and I am appealing to them to actually hasten their move to be able to meet.”
