The Minister for Employment, Jobs, and Labour Relations, Rashid Pelpuo, has announced that the government is investigating the recruitment of approximately 12,000 individuals into the public sector by the former Akufo-Addo administration following the 2024 general elections.
Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV, Dr. Pelpuo revealed that the mass recruitment took place within a week or two after the former government lost the elections, raising concerns over the legitimacy and motivations behind the appointments.
Dr. Pelpuo explained that President John Dramani Mahama had set up a committee to investigate complaints of unfair dismissals among the newly employed individuals, with the aim of ensuring transparency and fairness in the process.
“We’re investigating the timing, processes, and possible political motivations behind these appointments. We will have the results soon,” he stated.
The committee, co-chaired by Dr. Pelpuo, is expected to determine whether proper procedures were followed and make recommendations for addressing any issues arising from the appointments.
