-

The government has swiftly disbursed GHS 200 million to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to tackle the ongoing food shortages in schools across the country.

This was disclosed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State Nominee in charge of Government Communication and Spokesperson for President John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen program on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu revealed that the decision followed a series of meetings with key stakeholders in the education sector.

“Government has disbursed about 200 million cedis after several meetings with stakeholders in the education sector,” he stated, adding that the move is part of efforts to avert the impending feeding crisis in schools.

He assured the public of the Mahama administration’s commitment to addressing inefficiencies in the school feeding program.

According to him, the government is on track to decentralize the feeding initiative, a move he believes will offer a sustainable solution to the challenges faced under the previous administration.

The announcement has been welcomed by many, as schools have faced significant food supply challenges in recent weeks.
