Govt declares April 18 and 21 as public holidays

Government, through the Ministry of Interior, has declared Friday, April 18, and Monday, April 21, 2025, as public holidays.
A statement signed by Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak explained that the dates have been set aside to mark Good Friday and Easter Monday.
“The general public is hereby informed that Friday, 18 April 2025, and Monday, 21 April 2025, which mark Good Friday and Easter Monday respectively, are statutory public holidays and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the statement said.
Good Friday is observed by Christians to commemorate the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ at Calvary. The day falls within Holy Week, ahead of Easter Sunday.
Easter Monday, which follows Easter Sunday, is marked in celebration of the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, a key event in the Christian faith.
