Govt considers extending Kasoa-Winneba highway project beyond Winneba

-

The Finance Minister, Mohammed Amin Adam, has announced that the government is contemplating extending the Kasoa to Winneba highway project beyond its initially planned endpoint in Winneba.

During an inspection tour of the highway with the Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye, the Finance Minister reassured that the Ministry of Finance is committed to ensuring the timely release of funds to support the construction.

Mr Amin Adam emphasized the strategic importance of the highway, noting that the extension is being considered because the road serves as a crucial connection to other parts of the region and a vital link to West African countries.

“This highway connects to Takoradi through Cape Coast and beyond. I discussed with the [Roads and Highways] Minister the possibility of extending this contract to the border, given the quality of work being done here. This extension would bring significant relief to the people, and the [Roads and Highways] Minister and I will work together to support this project.

“All our investments aim to facilitate easier movement of goods and improve efficiency and productivity in Ghana. I want to assure the Minister that the Ministry of Finance will continue to provide its support to ensure the successful completion of this project.”

Residents along the highway have expressed concerns about safety issues, such as large gullies and rock blasting.

However, Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye affirmed that they are prepared to address specific safety concerns along the stretch.

“Safety is paramount, and while I know safety measures have been implemented, we are ready to tackle any specific issues that people are concerned about.”
