According to them, the introduction of new taxes by the Akufo-Addo-led government has increased their cost of doing business.

Executive Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana, Samson Asaki Awingobit revealed this on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Monday.
He has bemoaned how government is clandestinely using these new taxes to replace the one percent tax relief it gave to importers and exporters.
“Government is now doing galamsey at the ports while it claims to be fighting it elsewhere” Mr. Awingobit noted.

Mr. Awingobit said they are not able to reduce prices of goods due the increases in taxes and it has created disaffection between them and customers after government announced the tax reliefs.
“We are very disappointed because government is now charging over three million cedis for a 40 footer container. How do you want such a person to survive [in business]”, he asked.

On the way forward, Mr. Awingobit said they will pass on the cost they incur at the port to consumers if nothing is done about the issue.
